curiosly this paramecium did not explode like others under coverglass!

really nice photographs! Is this the "old" Zeiss DIK for the Photomikroskop II or the newer DIK for the Photomikroskop III?
I have the older version and my results are fare from yours. :-[ Is there a special trick?

Hi Florian,
i got the third version of DIC whit single prism for each objective you can see im my website!
there is no trick only a little settage of level in Photoshop!

thank you. You are using a setup different from mine, and you have the right touch in using Photoshop.
By the way: If you do not merge two photographs within the same file the photographs will be displayed in larger size in this forum - this would look even better!

what is this ??? I have never seen such structures on the surface of Paramecium before. Is it typical for all Paramecia or is this a chracteristic mark of the speical kind of Paramecium?

i think this is a structure of all genera of paramecium!

Hi Arturo,
I was puzzeled by your Paramecium photo when I saw it the first time and I am still puzzeled now, a few days later. For me, it looks as if it is something "wrong" with this critter. Paramecium has huge numbers of cilia all over its body which should obscure the structure of the pellicula. And I never managed to see clearly anything but moving cilia when I focused on the surface of the cell. Anyway, the posted image is rather small. Can you post a larger version of your DIC image so that the presence or absence of cilia can be seen more clearly? Maybe, you can also add a picture showing the micro- and macronucleus?
The link above in my opinion shows a Paramecium which has been deciliated before imaging to show the cuticular structure.
