Liebes Forum,
wenn man Eberhard Raap in Sangerhausen besucht, liegt ein Ausflug zu der bekannten Solequelle in Artern nahe (ca. 10 km). Nicht nur Pflanzen und Tiere bilden dort eine besondere an das Salz angepasste Gemeinschaft. Auch die Mikroflora ist einzigartig und von massivem Diatomeen-Bewuchs geprägt.

Hi Heribert, the top image is a bit light for my monitor, but it certainly is stacked very well! A 3D image will be interesting.
Your diatom is Achnanthes, it looks like A. brevipes (A. longipes has double rows of pores, quite easily seen with a 40x).
