Hallo,
im Nov, Dez 2017 war ich auf Sylt, und habe mir von dort einiges an Wattschlick mitgebracht.
Ein kleiner Teil des Schlicks wurde durch ein 75µ Sieb geschickt. Die darin verbliebenen Reste
wurden so gut wie möglich gesäubert und mit HCL und H2SO4 behandelt.
Heraus kam eine ganze Menge an doch recht großen Diatomeen Eyemplaren.
Bei der Bestimmung bin ich noch unsicher, bitte informiert mich wenn da etwas nicht stimmt oder unsicher ist.

Nice collection Klaus. Bit too much DIC for my taste, certainly the first couple of diatoms would do so much better in brightfield. But nevermind.
The Coscinodiscus probably is C pavillardii (as we call it overhere: I'm still not sure about the difference between pavillardii and perforatus). In any case not radiatus, which is as thin and flat as a coin. And the areolar structure of radiatus is not as regular as this one.

@Rene, I didn´t find any description about C. pavillardii, however I found a paper (PDF)
"Coscinodiscus perforatus revisited and compared with Coscinodiscus radiatus (Bacillariophyceae)"
from 2010 that describes the difference between C. Perforatus and C. radiatus. This paper
was the trigger for me to define the found C. as radiatus. However i am very unsure about it,
and I am more than willing to take your experiened opinion.
Do you have any literatur that describes C. pavillardii? I would be happy if you can send me
a link or the name of the literature about C.pavillardii.

Diatomee entdeckt. Auf der Suche nach Bestimmungshilfen bin ich auf folgenden
Namen für diese sehr schöne gestoßen:

Hi Klaus, that last one is a nice find! Not seen it before.
C.pavillardii was used to be known as a form of perforatus. For data see Hustedt eg from the heritage biodiversity site, or Cupp (https://escholarship.org/uc/item/922945w8).
C radiatus really is as flat as it comes, even with oil immersion (60/1.4):

Your Coscinodiscus probably has a dimple in the middle, if not it might be C centralis. The difference will show in the areolar structure with oil immersion. C pavillardii is more common around here.
