Hello all,

Got a hardly used 20x immersion objective at work which doesn't give a good image. Looking through it shows a bubble, I suppose that's air and the surrounding is filled with oil. So I called Olympus, asked them to repair it and they replied: sorry, no spare parts. That's bullshit of course, but the time investment and lack of proper repair facilities might make it uneconomical for them.  Anyway, I got myself something to play with.

So it started of simple, screwed off the ring and removed the spring. Then it gets tricky: there's a slotted nut visible (arrow) but I have only about a mm of play between the back lens and the side. On top of that, the nut is a couple of mm below the surface of the back lens...
Does somebody have a suggestion how to carry on with this??

you would need an adjustable spanner wrench or similar tool and a vise suitable for holding the cylindrical objective:

I would ask Olympus for cleaning and not for repair!
If the right Person will have it in Front he can easy Open it and if you are right cleanup shall work.

Thanks for the tips guys, I think I would need to make myself a cylindrical spanner wrench, as I have very little space.

I'd say you need to remove the gliding centerpiece with the optics before you loosen that nut.

If the construction is similar to the old Olympus objectives I've disassembled you should be able to remove the outer barrel first.

Not sure how to get that unscrewed Chris, if at all possible. Any tips?

I suspect it works like a Leitz objective I disassembled before (https://www.mikroskopie-forum.de/index.php?topic=28745.msg214410#msg214410 (https://www.mikroskopie-forum.de/index.php?topic=28745.msg214410#msg214410): unscrew the retainer, remove the spring, unscrew the slotted nut and push from the bottom (frontlens) the whole train of lenses through the barrel.

Someone posted a picture of two disassembled UPLANSAPOs (and some other parts) on ebay.

No, I didn't buy it.
These objectives don't look like they could be reassembled.

But you can see the 2nd thread on the dark cylinder in the upper right corner.
