Titel: High eyepoint eyepieces for Leitz Dialux 1958
Beitrag von: deBult in Mai 08, 2020, 23:31:21 NACHMITTAGS
A question on a 1958 Leitz Dialux (black enamel) The little sister of the Ortholux.

I have 2 with some defects and missing parts and currently refurbishing and rebuilding so I have one operational scope. Fascinating workmanship.

Bino-head, revolver, condenser and stage are done. Objectives and eyepieces cleaned.

Next step Is the coarse and fine focus: this may be a challenge above my Competence though.
Actually on both scopes it runs quite smooth, so not sure whether I will take this on.

Complicating factor is I have 3 sets of eyepieces none of them are high eyepoint and I'm wearing glasses ("Brille").
So to really make it work I need high eyepoint eyepieces

Are they available for these older Leitz scopes, what is the exact type to look for (offers appreciated).

Best, Maarten

Hi Maarten,

They were available. There are a lot of them listed as Periplan high eyepoint eyepieces during that time:

http://microscope.database.free.fr/500_files/500_d9%20Specifications%20of%20Leitz%20microscope%20objectives%20and%20eyepieces%20condensers%20and%20objective%20carriers.pdf
http://microscope.database.free.fr/512_files/512-14c%20Labolux.pdf

However, the field numbers are a bit low, a Periplan 10x high eyepoint usually at around 14. They look very odd with their conical eyelenses, there are a few pictures here: https://www.photomacrography.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=33131

If you can live with an anachronistic setup, you can use the more recent Periplan 10x Brille (170 mm version: https://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/3229_Tube_adapters_1.jpg) which has a field number of 18 (not written on the label). Some old Leitz objectives (low power achromats) need Huygens eyepieces, all others work with Periplans.

Best wishes,

Jon

Hi Maarten,
at Leitz there were tree combinations:
- 1. 37mm objectives, 170mm tube, intermediate image 18mm inside the tube
- 2. 45mm objectives, 170mm tube, intermediate image 18mm inside the tube, eyepiece name e.g. Periplan 10x
- 3. 45mm objectives, 160mm tube, intermediate image 10mm inside the tube, eyepiece name e.g. Periplan 10x18

The more modern eyepieces will be of the two latter types. So you have to check what objectives and tube length you are using.

Hallo Marten,
