This was my first rotifer, found a couple of months ago in a soil sample. My best guess is Philodina sp. but I really have no idea. Any help would be great :)
Hi Finley,
Do you have more images of the critter?
Unfortunately it is hardly possible to id a bdelloid rotifer based on a single image. Genus Philodina is possible, but also the genera Mniobia and Macrotrachela. Does the specimen have eyespots? It´s not clear how many major teeth are in the trophi. (There seem to be 4 in each of the unci, which would exclude a lot of Philodina species, but none would have such long and parallel aligned spurs). A more detailed image of the foot would show if and how many toes the critter has which would allow to distinguish between Mniobia, Macrotrachela and Philodina.

Hi Michael, thanks for the reply. I also have an image of it contracted and a video, which may or may not be of use. Not sure how I'd send the video though...

Hi Finley,
you could upload it on YouTube or another video service and link it here.
If you like I can provide you a link to upload it on my cloud and then I´d upload it in my YT account.
Best regards
Martin
Thanks Martin, I'll put it on youtube
