Titel: Reichert objectives differences? Unterschiede bei Reichert-Objektiven?
Beitrag von: AleksandarK in September 13, 2023, 16:52:24 NACHMITTAGS
Hello,

I just got these two Reichert objectives.

As far as I can see, both are oil immersion with 1.25 NA and 100x magnification.

The "Austria" version has tube length and glass cover thickness markings, while the "Wien" version has none.

Can you tell me more about them? "Austria" vs. "Wien"?

I don't need both of them, which one should I keep?

The optics also seem different.

In the "Wien" version, the front lens is flush with the front of the lens,
in the "Austria" version, the front lens appears to be recessed.

Is the "Austria" version faulty?
Is the front lens missing or collapsed into the lens body, or it is like this by design?
When I shake it there is no loose lens rattling inside.

To better illustrate the differences, I have included some photos that I took with different camera angles and lighting.
Please right-click to open them in a new tab and zoom in to see the details and differences of the front lenses.

Thanks in advance,
Aleksandar

Google translate  :) :

Hallo,

Aleksandar

Hello Aleksandar,
it looks different to this (https://www.ebay.com/itm/125935724610?hash=item1d525aa842:g:Gw0AAOSwAftkYmsK&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwFQHjlx3DTQeIHi5H1PBut8ABRXHJkw9e%2BVCxApGjAIFX5Neyry438RXiOIKA9JjqojmjwK8SnDUztQ1lCLPiJFgtfUh79o%2BwOLVH4GtH3c%2BAzNV9XeZRF5zOWvYkDRqrh4rqNFnsH22vj7vjart3GIiv3AbINrkfx2GAH4FrjAl8VWy28NJDcifi5GWJw5yOfGHD4awWxjuTy4CiTb9CkKozmhRzeIXWVWaEEXrMghd%2FlCNjBdNVkxnwwVqwvIfCA%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR6ak4PjRYg) objective (juxtaposed serial number), or?
Did you recognize the scratch on top of your "Austria oel 100", this beheaded the front lense!
Best regards Stefan

Hello Stefan,
Thank you for the link!
The photo of the front of the objective in the eBay ad is not 100% clear, but it could be that my copy is missing the front lens.
Yes I'm aware of the scratched metal surface on the front.
It seems that the objective was too close to the stage too many times during its life, and rotating it in the turret and swinging it into the working position has caused the scratches.
Best regards,
Aleksandar

...And besides that, are there any other differences between "Wien" and "Austria" branded Reichert objectives?

To my knowledge Reichert used "Wien" from "Anschluss Österreichs"  1938 until "Staatsvertrag" 1955 to avoid using "Großdeutschland" instead of Austria. So your  Wien branded objective is the older one.

(There is an other example (clearer depicted) (https://www.ebay.com/itm/373986330324?hash=item57135286d4:g:EfUAAOSwHk9iOF4n&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwPkOXkFksod8LKpdgSYFwOWTbhFmVDIpM1HTIGqReNy3%2F6ckjo9S9Eujo2HpvdZ%2Bfjh2OAlVZt93nu0uGcNo7Mdqa5Pv5wbem9UkNPi%2Bl%2FmalhCac%2BiDDzeNYQ5Jljtw8cQe%2F2oCZdGMMBwsqcqT0ouV%2Fjbn95V35pFKonreZSum8khLBoTqkIcpvwylzpimlgqXv%2Foh4PcFyCFV3R%2F%2BN931CLsikeVxrWXXm7BbsBXJ2BNrGSofhRehJOgh%2F6PR9g%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR_6l_IfSYg) for comparison with your Austria Oel 100 )

Thanks!

So the "Wien" is a more vintage objective and the "Austria" is newer. :)

Did the optical formulas changed much? Are there any significant differences between the older and the newer lenses?

I see that the older "Wien" objective has no 160/0.17 markings.
Is it compatible with my 160 mm tubus microscopes (various vintage Meopta, Zeiss Jena and Lomo)?
I have read somewhere that Reichert was Leitz's son-in-law and that his early microscopes resembled Leitz's.

The older one is 160 mm TL too, it depends on your Meopta, Zeiss whatever eyepieces if they work, try out.
May be it was "Bella gerant alii, tu felix Austria nube" to avoid too much competions  ;D
Best regards and good night
