In my frantic search to get all original determination works together (you know the real old stuff) I found today the latest candy on the Biodiversity Heritage Library. Not really modern, sure, but who cares if you look at the details that are, just right!

This is taken from Kofoid and Swezy, 1921: The free-living unarmored dinoflagellata. The whole book can be downloaded from http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/. The standard pdf generation is lousy from the plates point of the view, but they can be separately downloaded in reasonably good quality pdf by choosing the specific pages on it's own.
Shame they do never seem to be bothered to perform a white balance, but if needed, the original jp2's can be downloaded as well in a massive zip file... The above image of warnowiid dinoflagellates is a 50% resize and slightly colour adjusted part of one of the plates.

Stll on the lookout for the original works by Stein and Ehrenbergh, let me (us) know when you come across the digital version, please!

Best wishes, René
