Apologies for the english!

A question for the Zeiss experts - was there ever a bertrand lens option for the Axioskop?

I know there was a slider for the Plan/Phot, and a telescope for the Skop.

I am slowly building an infinite tripod and have both Axioplan and Axioskop tripods. I would prefer to commit to the Skop for it's smaller footprint, but the bertand lens is my most used extra on my Universal.

Thanks.

Hi Adam,

yes, there was. It is a slider like the ones for fluorescence filters that contained the Bertrand lens. It had 3 positions, bright field, polarization and Bertrand. A quite rare item.

Many thanks Alexander. I will do some more research.

If I could find one, I am wondering if there would be any remaining advantages to the Axioplan. I suppose the rotating table can be centred. Is the light path bigger?

Hi Adam,

The rotating table for Axioskop cannot be centered. This is an Axioplan only feature. All you can do is to mount it as centered as possible.

Opton/Optovar and later Zeiss Axioplan/Axiophot and likely Axioskop (first and three option below) had three options for Bertrand lenses.
First option was integrated in the so called intermediary pol tube.
The second option was the Bertrand slider 45 46 70, that goes in the position of the analyzer, see the second pic. One needs analyzer (6.16) in the second pic to take the full advantage of this second option, say with conoscopy.
The third option is valid for every single microscope and it is to remove the oculars and look into the focal plane.
