Hello,
Here is
Arcuospathidium sp.~300µm
From "Hasan 'Arafe" urban pond, TLV, Israel.
General morphology, encysting, and exploded trichocysts.
Inverted, 40x dry, NIC-
Enjoy!
Hello Ariel,
Very interesting Video, outstanding quality as always.
Especially the footage of, what seems to be an early stage of encystment, cought my eye.
As you most likely already know, there is a detailed paper about the encystment process from Kuidong Xu and Wilhelm Foissner:
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/237586714_Morphology_ontogenesis_and_encystment_of_a_soil_ciliate_Ciliophora_Haptorida_Arcuospathidium_cultriforme_Penard_1922_with_models_for_the_formation_of_the_oral_bulge_the_ciliary_patterns_and_the_evolut
What is puzzeling me, are the extruded rods outside. Can you provide some informationen about their size and the size of the whole cyst?
Do you still have a sample for further studies? The cysts should build up a very distinct faceted surface over time.
Do you have footage showing the macronucleus of what seems to be a forming cyst?
And one more question, where exactly did you find this sample?
Curious greetings Holger
Hello Holger,
That's all the footage I got :)
The rods are ~30µm
The sample was taken from one of TLV's urban ponds-
Hallo Ariel,
absolut perfekt!!
Grüße
Kurt
