Titel: taxonomical nomenclature
Beitrag von: Rene in April 13, 2011, 13:29:09 NACHMITTAGS
A bit of a silly question really, but what is the official way of using italics in scientific names?

Only genus and species name, or also family name? And what of the groupings above families?

Thanks, René

Hello,

1. Wikipedia: "Conventionally, all names of genera and lower taxa are always italicised, while family names and higher taxa are printed in plain text."

2. Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species.

You can remember it this way (first letter):
King Phillip came over for ginger snaps.
King Phillip conquered over fifty German ships.
Keep pots clean or family gets sick.
