Nakik pond - Summer soup

Hi all,
The water temperature is 39 °C, and the eastern side of my favourite pond has almost dried out, leaving a thick layer dominated by Euglena sanguinea.
The orange, reddish look comes from the carotenoid astaxanthin, which serves as a defence mechanism in stressful conditions, similar to the melanin in our skin.
