Diatomee Chaetocerus möglicherweise C. diaderma aus Nordatlantik-Plankton

Hallo zusammen,
in dem Präparat von veraschtem Nordatlantik-Plankton habe ich auch dieses Objekt gefunden. Falls es ein Snitch (Harry Potter gelesen?) ist, habe ich jetzt gewonnen. Falls nicht, was könnte es sein? Eine Diatomee? Ein Überrest Zooplankton?

eindeutig eine Diatomee der Gattung Chaetocerus möglicherweise C. diaderma.

Hallo Michael, 
vielen Dank für die Bestimmung! Kann es sein, dass das die Seitenansicht einer dieser Diatomeen ist? Dann hätten die Dinger mich wieder drangekriegt. Ich finde es immer schwierig, die verschiedenen Ansichten der Diatomeen miteinander in Verbindung zu bringen. Und Diatomeen mit solchen langen Strahlen sind mir bislang nicht untergekommen

Hi Bob, the opening between the cells are rectangular in C. diadema. So your last image is something else. It looks more like Chaetoceros curvisetus, but I would need to see more img to be sure. If it is C. curvisetus, your first image is another sp.

Hi Rene,
I will try to get better pictures. It is possible that diatoms have been deformed by the heat. At the same time the cleaning in not perfect so there can be dirst that obscures detail.

Not sure of that, I have no experience with ashing. The ashing itself would probably be ok, but the subsequent embedding in resin might deform the direction of the spines (setae) of these Chaetoceros sp. But it looks ok, and C. curvisetus typically has the setae directed to the outside of the spiralling colony. Check on the net for images. I think I can see that in your last img. Therefore it does not correspond with your first image.
