Hi all,

I got a strange microscope for 20 EUR, it's a black monocular PHYWE microscope looking as new with objectives marked:

7:1 ap 0.20
10:1 ap 0.25
58:1 ap 0.85

On the microscope is written PHYWE. There is also written "made in Germany" , and the number 15494.

There's nothing  I can find about older PHYWE (Physikalische Werkstätten?) microscopes. This microsocpe is  build very robust, like older Zeiss or Leitz. Can anybody shed some like on it, what age this could be and maybe something abut PHYWE?  Answers can be in German, no problem for me. Thank you very much,

Rolf

Briljante eenvoud Rolf. Does do a planapo objective fully justice!  :)

"Queensday" leftover?

Hi Rene, no it wasn't from Queensday. Just another surprise from marktplaats. Best regards,

Rolf

Rene

oh well, could well have been. Good buy, far better than the thingies at school, remember? Grey hammerslag olympus, only coarse focus, no condenser. This resembles a bit an old leitz condenser rack, not sure, but it certainly looks german old-fashioned quality.

Best, René

Mmmm yes, the scopes at highschool. We had grey Euromex microscopes with a condenser if I remember correctly. I bought one not so long ago for nostalgia reasons. But these are very good microscopes in fact. I remember being thrilled looking for the first time through it in the "brugklas". That was before I got my BOB-optik toy microscope which I used to study half the world with. Ahhh, memories...............

Hi all,

Om ebay item 360252557302 shows a Will Wetzlar binocular microscope labeled PHYWE. Also, there are some PHYWE objectives on ebay. I wonder what the source of PHYWE is, it's still not clear to me. Best regards,

Rolf

Hi all,

For those interested, I've emailed PHYWE systeme in Gottingen and they could tell me that this particular microscope was manufactured by Hertel & Reuss in the 60ties and sold by PHYWE AG. I don't know if Hertel & Reuss is any good but I do know that this microscope is build like a tank, it's rock solid with very precise mechanics. Best regards,

Rolf
